Robin Hood Wants To Create A Tax Of His Own

May 4, 2010

Russel Crowe, who will be playing Robin Hood in an upcoming movie, recently did an interview with a British newspaper where he briefly discusses his views on redistribution.

From The Sun;

He is keen on the side of the story that deals with “the rights and privileges of the ruling class being redistributed” and says he was interested in a recent proposal by fellow actor Bill Nighy and director Richard Curtis to introduce a so-called Robin Hood tax.”

They are campaigning to introduce a levy on international currency transactions and to give the money raised to those in greater need.”

Russell says:

“I think in essence it’s not a bad idea. I would probably be looking at aiming a bit higher than what they are aiming for at the moment.

“They need to be careful how they word any document. Banks have a habit of stinging you at both ends.

“It is always a point which bothers everybody when banks seem to put up their charges on an annual basis yet also seem to publish these gigantic profit figures in the same year and you wonder why your own life isn’t moving at the same pace.

“Why do they get the advantage of being able to put their prices up when the services remain the same?”

Yet another actor with the ability to judge the mechanisms of international banking and economic fields.  I wonder, which specific sector will actually be paying for their proposed levy if it is enacted against currency transactions?  Furthermore, how much of the projected funds will actually reach those in “greater need?” Can we claim with complete verity that monies extracted under similar conditions precluded the advancement of poverty? Africa doesn’t think so.

    *sigh* Why do all the actors I like seem to be socialists, or far lefties?

    What is it about the nouveau rich that all of a sudden they know how best for us “common folk” to be taxed or how we should spend our money? I mean, if they feel guilty because they got a big break and found themselves wealthy beyond their wildest dreams, perhaps they could donate a large piece of their “pie” to the down trodden and poverty-stricken. Me, I give what I can when I’m able and wish I could do more, but I don’t need some nouveau rich bastard telling me how much I should be giving.

    Amazing. Do all actors suffer from liberal mania? Perhaps it would be better if banks would suffer losses instead of profits and therefore collapse; of course, this would mean that economies would also collapse but, heck, at least we would all be equal then. Jeez!

    I wonder if it isn’t some sort of liberal mental disorder. What is very clear is that they lack any understanding of economics, history, politics (as it relates to the procedurals of government), and common sense. Yet, some people take what they hear from them as gospel. This is very disconcerting.

    Not only do they not realize that the bureaucracy will eat up most of these funds, they fail to realize that the end user pays all taxes and fees. Like Al Gore, and other prominent libs, they impose on us what they will not do themselves.
